Professor Thierry Soussi is a team leader at the Centre de Recherche Saint-Antoine Team « Hematopoietic and Leukemic Development » UMRS_938, Sorbonne Université in Paris. He is a renowned scientist known for his work on the p53 protein and its role in cancer. The focus of his research lies in the following areas:

1) Phylogenetic analysis of TP53: Since 1985, Thierry Soussi has been investigating the evolutionary characteristics of p53, which involved the identification and cloning of TP53 in different mammalian and non-mammalian species. His work resulted in the discovery of the highly conserved domains I to V of the p53 protein, which is now a widely accepted and used model in the scientific community.

2) p53 autoantibodies in human cancer: Soussi’s lab has been a leading group studying p53 autoantibodies in human cancer, finding immunodominant epitopes and identifying high-risk patients.

3) TP53 mutation database: He has developed the UMD_TP53 mutation database, which now includes 150,000 TP53 mutations from patients with various types of cancer.

4) p53-associated genetic diagnoses: Thierry Soussi has contributed to the development of new guidelines for diagnosing TP53-associated genetic conditions, with the goal of establishing uniform classification, annotation, interpretation, and reporting of TP53 sequence variants linked to cancer and hereditary syndromes.

5) Seshat web service: In 2018, Thierry Soussi released Seshat, a web service for annotating TP53 information derived from sequencing data. Seshat is a valuable tool for interpreting the ever-growing TP53 sequencing data generated by multiple sequencing platforms and is freely available via the TP53 Website.

Thierry Soussi has authored over 276 published articles and two patents. Since 1983, he teaches the molecular biology and genetics at the University P.M. Curie (name change to Sorbonne University in 2019), he was also giving lectures to MD students on molecular oncology at various universities in France. Awarded many prizes including The J. S. Bourdain prize from the Ligue contre le Cancer in 1991, Award from the French National Cancer Foundation in 1992, Scientist of the Year by the journal “Abstract Medecine” 1996, The J. Vallade Prize from the Fondation de France in 1997, Award “Paris” Ligue contre le Cancer in 1999 and Award « Chancellerie des Université » in 2000. He is a communicating editor for Human Mutation (Willey press, ), member of the editorial board for Trend in Molecular Medicine (Cell press), and member of the Advisory Committee of the center for personal medicine in Hadassah Medical Center, Jerusalem. Professor Thierry Soussi’s work has significantly contributed to the understanding of the p53 protein, its role in cancer, and the development of tools for accurate variant annotations and interpretation of TP53 sequencing data.

Wykład finansowany jest w ramach projektu POWER.03.05.00-22-Z082/18.
